i-Human Patients Simulated Patient Service Wins “Best in Show” Award at International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) Conference

Patient simulation helps students develop diagnostic reasoning skills

MAMMOTH LAKES, CA, USA – January 29, 2013 – i-Human Patients, Inc. today announced that its i-Human Patients® service won a “Best in Show” award in the Serious Games and Virtual Environments Showcase at the 13th Annual International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) conference in Orlando, Florida. IMSH is the world’s largest conference dedicated to healthcare simulation training, and it provides a venue for simulation enthusiasts from all over the world to come together for simulation-based learning, research and scholarship in the healthcare arena.

i-Human Patients is a web-based service for medical students that simulates a patient visit. Students use i-Human Patients to interview and examine animated patients, order/review diagnostic tests, develop diagnostic hypotheses, and create treatment plans. Students receive online guidance and feedback at every step of the learning process. Thus, it provides a comprehensive learning tool that integrates clinical experience much earlier into medical education, helps students develop patient assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills, and prepares students for their apprenticeship training with real patients.

“Being recognized as a Best in Show exhibitor at the IMSH conference is a real honor for i-Human Patients since the attendees at the conference are the worldwide thought leaders in medical simulation technologies,” said Craig Knoche, president of i-Human Patients, Inc. “i-Human Patients is a new kind of simulator because students can access its highly visual content over the Internet using their personal computer or tablet wherever they connect, whenever they wish, using technology that is consistent with today’s students’ lifestyle.”

“IMSH 2013 put the latest advances in simulation-based learning on display for the healthcare community, and the Showcase Arcade is the place where game-based learning and virtual environments take center stage,” said Katherine White, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Iowa and member of the judging committee for the 2013 Arcade. “The i-Human Patient service is a great example of the creative thinking and innovative educational tools displayed in the Arcade that are going to shape the next generation of healthcare providers.”
